Expedition Update - Change of the Expedition Route // Finger Operation in Germany

As I wrote earlier another operation is necessary on my right-handed mid finger caused by my trike accident 2 years ago. I will do this operation in Germany. I am still in search of a German specialist in finger chirurgy.

This means that I must stay 2-4 months in Germany doing a expedition break (but preparing the second part of my expedition meanwhile). Thus, I decided now to change my expedition route as follows. After Northern Spain / Portugal / Mid-Southern Spain, I will cycle back to Germany crossing France and perhaps again Belgium / Netherlands (depend on where I find a good clinic). After this operation, I will cycle to North-Western Italy and continuing my expedition.  My according time plan is flexible since I don´t know how long I will stay in Spain / Portugal. Anyway, I want to be in Germany end of this year.

As I want to mention as well, my sister Netti (Many thanks for her help as team partner doing my Back Office Management!) will visit me in Portugal in September! Hehe; I am looking forward to meet her on a place where we have never been before :o)

Ahoy, ahoy,

Finally, I arrived in Nantes (Western France) yesterday night after another night ride of 29 hours non-stop cycling from Cherbourg (French harbour on the North coast). That was my third night ride within 7 days and I just did a funny calculation. About 95hours cycling within 7 days. Wow :o) I am crazier than I thought ;o) I started this challenge in Huddersfield 7 days ago and honestly, I did not start in a good condition at all. I need urgently a break. But a nice award for this great challenge. I had an interview with BBC this morning. I will publish it when I will have received the audio file.
Okees, I have now 3 days off before taking off cycling to the South towards Cissac Médoc (near Bordeaux) and enjoying there the Reggae festival ReggaeSunSka which is our special supporter.
Nicolas, very good friend and project partner, coming from Nantes, will accompany me for the coming 2 weeks. For sure, that we won’t do any night rides. Relaxed cycling now and a great festival in one week :o)

Hello hello,
It’s already Wednesday and I am ready to leave London. Yes, I know being late. But at the moment, I am struggling with all my daily work. I try to find the right way managing all project tasks and my private business.
I have a major challenge enhancing the project mission by a new idea. This idea is far beyond the issue of the financial crisis. It shall be an effective way to do something in our economy during my expedition. Being in hurry, I cannot write the new idea down. But see it as an announcement for a bigger project enhancement. More news when I will find time within the next 2 weeks cycling to Northern England, Ireland and along the French west coast towards Spain.

Did I like it in London the last 4 days? No, I felt me weird. It is for me a grey, too modern, too well developed, stressful city (except of Camden market area). I realised also a different life on the street. People don’t scare at you when you look crazy. Everybody is crazy in London :o) That is also what Jacqueline and Roger explained me. Jacqueline and Roger are our team partners in London producing & publishing our video documentation. Nevertheless, I really enjoyed the time with them talking about intellectual issues how we can enhance the project management.

Ah hurry up! It’s already 4pm. I must start cycling to meet the mayor of Huddersfield in one week. Huddersfield is a city in Northern England my old students’ town.

PS:
The pics show my 30hours night ride from Netherlands to the French / Belgian border, continuing to the French north coast to Calais taking the ferry to Dover (Southern England) and finally my arrival in Sevenoaks (near London), and my last days in and around London.

Ahoy,

many greetings from Bad Bentheim. What for a great welcome by the city!
As short documentation of yesterday, some fellow cyclists were cycling with me the last kilometers to Bad Bentheim. Arriving in Bad Bentheim, the press & radio, major and citizen were waiting for me. A strange moment which I have never had before. In fact, I could sign the “The Golden Book”  which is a document of the history of the City imprinted by special personalities.
Afterwards, there was a special program about Berlin-Hanoi organised by our project supporter the youth club “Jugendhaus Bad Bentheim”. The program started with Blues singer & songwriter Martin Liening who was singing our new project song “berlin-hanoi blues”. In the following, he was showing his presentation of cycling history of the last 100 years. Afterwards, I was doing a presentation showing some Best Of pics, talking about my cultural adventures the last half year and presenting the first results of my survey about the financial crisis and the future.
Last but not least, the program ended by another Blues band Bluespam playing some great unplugged songs.

It was a great, great event :o)
I won’t forget it. Many thanks to Johann Bardenhorst, manager of “Jugendhaus Bad Bentheim” and his son, Christian Bardenhorst, photographer of yesterday and all others who who had been organising this event.

And as preliminary information, that was not the only event of Jugendhaus Bad Bentheim and Berlin-Hanoi. We are going to plan another celebration when I will be back in Germany :o)

FYI, the video documentation of yesterday will be published soon.

Many greetings from Bad Bentheim
Marco
